What's more comforting than a warm cup of delicious hot chocolate? Not much. But you know what isn't so cozy? Filling our bodies with things like high fructose corn syrup, white sugar, artificial flavors, and a lot more things I have no idea how to pronounce. Being doubled over with stomach pains seems to always ruin the magic of hot chocolate for me (how odd). I'm so happy to have found an alternative beverage that not only has the same comfort level as my childhood drink of choice, but also aligns beautifully with my lifestyle.
So what is Zen Hot Chocolate?
Yes, it's as great as it sounds! Zen hot chocolate replaces processed cocoa powder with an all organic, cold-processed cacao powder. The difference? Raw cacao powder is made by cold pressing unroasted cocoa beans. This way, all of the beneficial enzymes stay inside, while the fat is removed. The cocoa powder that we are used to is made from roasted cocoa. This process unfortunately changes the molecular structure of the bean and takes away from the nutritional content. It is also usually further processed and mixed with things like powdered dairy.
