Learn Ashtanga Yoga
If any of the above appeal to you, please join us for a yoga journey like no other. Whether you are new to yoga, an experienced practitioner, or somewhere in between, Ashtanga yoga has a starting point for you. Everyone can develop an Ashtanga practice, and one of the unique qualities of this tradition is the freedom of choice it offers, by design.
Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional yoga, initially taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. It incorporates an established set of poses (asanas), designed to condition the entire body, mind, and spirit. The set sequence empowers the practitioner to memorize the postures and eventually practice on their own.
Ashtanga offers each of us an individual experience, a depth of self-study and understanding, and the ability to decide with each practice how we choose to show up on the mat.
At Tribe Yoga, we’re offering multiple levels of classes to help you enter the practice, continue the practice, and deepen the practice — at your pace, and on your terms. Come as you are and join the community.

Classes
Step 1: Foundations of Ashtanga
with Stacy Hein
Mondays, 6 - 7pm (begins May 20)
Fridays, 4:45 – 5:45pm (begins May 17)
Appropriate for all levels of experience, this is also the perfect class for anyone who has never practiced Ashtanga (or yoga) before, or anyone returning to the practice after some time. We’ll begin with Ashtanga basics (breath, bandhas/energy holds, and dristi/gazing points), and then we’ll mindfully move through Sun Salutations and a selection of standing, balance, and seated poses. With each movement proper modification, alignment, and the helpful use of props will be explored. Select postures will be workshopped to enable increased depth of understanding. This class is designed to build confidence in your practice, allowing you to feel comfortable on the mat.
Step 2: Elements of Ashtanga
with Tori DePaulo or Cheryl Dally
Tuesdays, 6 – 7:15pm (with Cheryl) or
Saturdays, 9 – 10:15am (with Tori)
Elements of Ashtanga is a slightly longer, intermediate-level class, where students will continue to practice the Sun Salutations while linking each movement to breath. We will also work through the entirety of the Primary Series Standing Sequence and a sampling of the seated sequence, with modifications offered throughout to accommodate different levels of experience. Be prepared to gain an understanding of your mental and physical limits and learn about finding your “grace” – the space between effort and ease where you can fully benefit from each pose, mentally, emotionally and physically. Students must be able to move from seated to standing and back to seated.
Step 3: Ashtanga Half Primary
with Tori DePaulo
Wednesdays, 6 – 7:15pm
This is a led class, where students will continue to develop their practice. The class follows the sequence, including Sun Salutations, all standing poses, and seated poses through Navasana — with modifications offered to meet the needs of each student's level of strength, experience and flexibility. Students are encouraged to attend our Foundations of Ashtanga and Elements of Ashtanga classes to gain familiarity with the poses and language prior to taking our Half Primary Series class.
Step 4: Ashtanga Full Primary
with Stacy Hein/Tori DePaulo
will be held once each month
Next Date: Sunday, June 30th, 8:30 - 10:00am
This is a led class, where students will continue to develop their practice. The class follows the sequence, including Sun Salutations, all standing poses, and all seated poses with vinyasa transitions. Modifications are offered to meet the needs of each student's level of strength, experience and flexibility. Students are encouraged to attend our Foundations of Ashtanga, Elements of Ashtanga, and Half Primary Series classes to gain familiarity with the poses and language prior to taking our Full Primary Series class.
